” Corgis are now listed as a “vulnerable” breed in the United Kingdom, only a week after the Sunday Express newspaper reported Queen Elizabeth would no longer introduce more of the dogs in the royal household.

” Pembroke Welsh Corgis” are joining their cousins, the “Cardigan Welsh Corgis,” and 28 other breeds on the list, which is updated each year by the Kennel Club, a British organization promoting the health and welfare of dogs.

  Last year, registration numbers for Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppies were at 274, falling under the 300 threshold needed to stay off the list. They had been on a watch list for the past four years when the number fell under 450. While overall numbers of Corgis are estimated between 4,000 and 5,000 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Caroline Kisko from the Kennel Club told ABC News there had been a 16 percent drop since 2013.

  Why are the numbers declining? Because celebrities aren’t buying Corgis, Kisko said. “It makes sense when you look at the increased popularity of exotic breeds: French bulldogs registrations have gone up from 350 in 2004 to 9,000 last year.”

“ People are daft,” Kisko said, “because celebrity isn’t a good reason to buy a dog. Corgis are for everyone. They are fun, intelligent and active. We want people to do their research before buying a dog.”

  Not everyone believes in the celebrity factor. Diana King, chairwoman of the Welsh Corgi League, told ABC News she believes the decline is due to a 2007 ban on tail-docking (the practice of cutting off the animal’s tail) in the U.K.”

” Manufacturers will significantly accelerate their use of robots in U.S. factories over the next decade as they become cheaper and perform more tasks, constraining payroll growth, according to a study out Tuesday.

  The development is expected to dramatically boost productivity and slow the long-standing migration of factories across the globe to take advantage of low-cost labor, says the Boston Consulting Group report.

” Advanced robotics are changing the calculus of manufacturing,” says Harold Sirkin, a senior partner at the management consulting firm.

  A handful of nations, including the U.S. and China, are poised to reap the biggest benefits of the automation wave.

  About 1.2 million additional advanced robots are expected to be deployed in the U.S. by 2025, BCG says. Four industries will lead the shift — computer and electronics products; electrical equipment and appliances; transportation; and machinery — largely because more of their tasks can be automated and they deliver the biggest cost savings.

  About 10% of all manufacturing functions are automated, a share that will rise to nearly 25% in a decade as robotic vision sensors and gripping systems improve, BCG says.

  That’s prodding manufacturers to replace workers. BCG says manufacturers tend to ratchet up their robotics investment when they realize at least a 15% cost savings compared with employing a worker. In electronics manufacturing, it already costs just $4 an hour to use a robot for a routine assembly task vs. $24 for an average worker.”

Forgotten Copy Of Magna Carta Discovered In Kent

” An edition of the Magna Carta that could be worth up to £10 million has been found after it lay forgotten in a council’s archives.

  The discovery of the version of the historical parchment that established the principle of the rule of law, in the files of the history department of Kent County Council, has been described as an important historical find by an expert.

  The document was found in the archives kept in Maidstone, Kent, but belonging to the town of Sandwich.

  Professor Nicholas Vincent, of the University of East Anglia, who authenticated the document, said: “It is a fantastic discovery which comes in the week that the four other known versions were brought together at the Houses of Parliament.

” It is a fantastic piece of news for Sandwich, which puts it in a small category of towns and institutions that own a 1300 issue.” “

Royal Marine Sniper Has More Kills Than Chris Kyle

World’s Deadliest Sniper: Royal Marine Has 173 Confirmed Kills

 

 

 

 

 

” The world’s deadliest military sniper is a Royal Marine with 173 confirmed kills, including 90 members of the Taliban in just one day, it has been reported.

  The Briton, who has not been named, had served in the Royal Navy’s elite unit for more than a decade and recorded most of his kills during a six-month tour of Afghanistan in 2006/7, having also served in Iraq.

  The figure puts the corporal, reportedly married with two children and from southern England, ahead of US Navy SEAL commando Chris Kyle, who had 160 confirmed kills to make him the most lethal US sniper.

  Kyle’s exploits are the subject of a new film called American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper. 

  According to The Sun, the British sniper is said to have hit 90 Taliban fighters in a stronghold in just one day. It is thought his total number of ‘kills’ could be even higher than 173 if unconfirmed strikes were taken into account. 

  A source told The Sun: ‘He is not interested in scores or kill counts. He took no satisfaction in the job he had to do.

‘ Because he saw the enemy as humans he has not struggled emotionally or psychologically with what has happened.

‘ He had a unique job at a unique time. He must be the most lethal sniper in the world. But that is not a title he would seek out or revel in.’ “

  Instead he was given a reduced sentence after the judge considered provocation by the victim – who was described as a “violent nasty drunk”.

  But thousands have signed a petition calling on Wilson to be freed, saying the exceptional circumstances should have kept him from being locked up at all.”

British Company Fields First “Poop-Powered” Bus

  The 40-seat “Bio-Bus” runs on biomethane gas generated through the treatment of sewage and food waste.

  The eco-friendly vehicle can travel up to 300km (186 miles) on one tank of gas, which takes the annual waste of about five people to produce.

  It is run by tour operator Bath Bus Company and will shuttle people between Bristol Airport and Bath city centre.

  The biomethane gas is generated at Bristol sewage treatment works in Avonmouth, which is run by GENeco, a subsidiary of Wessex Water.

  GENeco general manager Mohammed Saddiq said: “Gas-powered vehicles have an important role to play in improving air quality in UK cities but the Bio-Bus goes further than that and is actually powered by people living in the local area, including quite possibly those on the bus itself.” “

Independence Movement Making Big Gains In Scotland

  Blair Jenkins, Chief Executive of Yes Scotland, said: ”This breakthrough poll shows that Yes has the big momentum – it’s an all-time high for Yes support in a YouGov survey so far, and an eight-point swing from No to Yes in just three weeks. We only need another three-point swing to achieve a Yes for Scotland on September 18.

” This is the horrific moment a man is bitten across the neck by a police dog as he lies on the ground. Video footage shows the shirtless man lying face down in the road after he was arrested by police officers.

  The police dog and its handler are directly in front of him, with the dog barking loudly. However, as the police suspect lifts his chest up, the dog becomes more agitated and approaches him.

  To the horror of those watching, it then lunges forwards and grabs him across the neck. An eyewitness can he heard saying: “Oh my God, it’s biting his head.”

  Avon and Somerset Police tonight said it was investigating the incident, which took place in Weston-super-Mare.”

AOPA Issues First Canine Pilot’s License To Callie , A Chocolate Labrador

Dog Gets Honorary License To Fly

 

 

 

 

 

” After completing 250 flying hours, Callie, a three-year-old British canine citizen, has received an honorary copilot flying license from Aircraft Owners and Pilots’ Association (AOPA).

  Graham Mountford is Callie’s owner, and for the past three years he has been taking his pet on flights across England. Mountford has been a private pilot for AOPA for the past 13 years and the “certified” flying dog took his first airplane ride when he was only three months old.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“ Everything has gone well on the flights. We first did a short flight and [Callie] seemed happy” said Mountford. After taking that initial voyage, the canine co-pilot has flown with his owners on weekend trips.”
