” Workers at an oil camp in North Dakota made a remarkable recording of a tornado as it carved out a direct path to where they were standing. Amazingly, the tornado stopped dead in its tracks and fizzled just as it reached the men, who were taking refuge in a vehicle.

It is unclear if this is the same tornado that struck at least eight trailers that are home to oil workers on Monday. (Three tornadoes were reported on that day.) As many as nine people were injured and one is in critical condition. Rescue crews are searching through debris at the camp today, which is located 5 miles south of Watford City. The storm system that produced this damaging tornado also dropped hail and heavy rain. The National Weather service is investigating reports of as many as three possible tornadoes–although those may be multiple touchdowns of the same funnel cloud.”

From FreePatriot.org

Allison Martinez Of FreePatriot.org has assembled a collection of nearly a dozen first-person videos of the tornado that struck Washington Illinois on November 17 . Here we present two of them for your edification .

The first one is of a father and daughter(s) that witness the tornado bearing down on their home . You will see the tornado approaching and the family taking cover . Then you can hear the house being ripped apart all around them as the camera view goes black and there is only audio until the twister passes . The family emerges to massive destruction of their immediate neighborhood . Here is Allison’s description of the event …

” The video below was taken right as the tornado hits  the family’s home.  Josie Wells, the oldest daughter of Marc and Kerry Wells, is clearly in a state of panic, but Marc Wells keeps it together. Apparently, his wife was gone with other family members, so it was  just him and his oldest daughter.   He sees the tornado coming at the house, he gets his daughter and himself inside and while the video goes dark, you can hear the house ripped apart by the storm. You can still hear the tornado sirens going off when they leave what is left of their home and see their neighborhood gone.”

” The family lost their home, two cars, and practically everything they own. Understandably, they are experiencing a bit of a shock as most families do when something like this happens.

Another stunning video is  one is security footage at the Dairy Queen. It takes about 40 seconds to see something, but watch the blue structure that is across the street.”

What a horrendous experience . These videos reveal the awesome suddenness and violence that is the nature of the tornado and the massive level of destruction reigned down on th town of Washington . Ms Martinez has many other videos on her post which you can find here .

If you would like to help in the recovery and cleanup or make a monetary donation you can find ways to do so here , here , here and here . Lord knows the people of Washington can use all the help they can get .

The Moment Storm Chasers Narrowly Escape Twin Tornadoes As They Touch Down Near Oklahoma City

” Dramatic video shows a team of storm chasers tracking the multiple tornadoes that hit the Oklahoma City area on Friday night.

Brandon Sullivan and Brett Wright captured heart stopping footage of their exploits getting close to the powerful twister near Union City, in southwest Oklahoma City.

In the intense clip, the pair are seen frantically trying to drive to safety as the tornado approaches and while they manage to escape by the skin of their teeth, their vehicle suffers serious damage from debris that flies straight into their windshield.”

Another team of Storm Chasers suffered an even worse fate … fortunately no one was killed .

” Among those who survived a direct hit from Friday’s massive twister were The Weather Channel’s “Tornado Hunt 2013” crew, one of several gangs of tornado chasers that regularly work the High Plains. Three crew members inside the Yukon SUV were scratched and bruised, but otherwise okay, after attempting unsuccessfully to outflank the oncoming twister.

“We saw a big giant wedge tornado, a rain-wrapped tornado, and we were trying to get away from it,” crew member Mike Bettes told the Weather channel.

“The vehicle I was in, we took a ride,” Mr. Bettes said. “The tornado threw us about 200 yards. I’m speechless. That was the scariest moment of my life. We were floating, then tumbling, we tumbled I don’t know how many times, and then we were airborne, just floating and then we weren’t tumbling, and then we came down hard.” “

Before/After Oklahoma Tornado Pictures Capture Devastation (LIVE UPDATES)

” The tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma on May 20 left many dead and injured, a school destroyed and a community to pick up the pieces.

While rescue workers are still in the process of assessing the damage, President Obama already declared Monday’s tornado to be one of the most destructive in U.S. history.

The National Weather Service gave the tornado a preliminary ranking of EF4, which puts it in the second most powerful category. According to the Associated Press, the twister was an estimated two miles wide with winds up to 200 mph.

Below are images showing what the Moore area looked like before the twister hit, and the tragic destruction that soon followed.”

How A Tornado Works

” The Enhanced Fujita scale ranks tornadoes based on the amount of damage they can inflict, and an EF4 tornado (out of 5) is among the most violent. Here’s how such a tornado forms and rapidly gains strength.”

1 | Supercell
Tornado-spawning thunderstorms, called supercells, arise where a current of low, warm, moist air traveling north from the Gulf of Mexico flows underneath a higher, cooler mass of air traveling east. Shear from these opposing winds causes the entire supercell to rotate slowly.
