” The unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, is posing some new questions about law enforcement and the militarization of the police.Three teenagers from Georgia have decided to take the issue into their own hands.

Caleb Christian, 14, and his two sisters — Ima, 16, and Asha, 15 — are about to roll out an app called “Five-O,” which will let users document police abuse and join together as a community to problem-solve.

Five-O lets users submit the details of any incident of police abuse and rate the specific officer. The app also has community boards for different counties so that users can communicate and plan responses to any difficulties with local police.

The idea is to collect data that users can then bring to community activists, the media, and other forms of law enforcement. That way, it’s not just “he said, she said,” Caleb said.”

Apple Helps Cops Hide Police Brutality

Published on Aug 12, 2013

” The rapid emergence of smart phones with high definition cameras leads to consequences for law-breaking cops. Recently, law enforcement has throughout the country has been trying to pass laws that would make it illegal to film them while they’re on duty. But Apple is coming out with a new technology that would put all the power in a cop’s hands. Check out the video and the link below for more information: “

Play Flappy Bird Here!

” The mobile game Flappy Bird became an overnight sensation and one of the world’d most downloaded apps. But just as soon as it exploded onto the world stage, it was gone. Developer Dong Nguyen, who was making a rumored $50,000 per day from ads, removed the app for personal reasons. This lead to screams of protest from fans who were thoroughly addicted to tapping on their phones to make their bird fly between pipes.

One enterprising iPhone owner attempted to hawk their own iPhone, complete with a copy of the game, for $90,000.

But this is the Internet, and nothing stays dead and buried for long. A web version of the game has sprung up and Flappy-obsessed gamers can now go back to navigating their bird through green pipes to their hearts content.”

APP TURNS SMARTPHONE INTO PERSONAL PANIC BUTTON,ALERT SYSTEM

” A “panic button” smartphone app that can alert friends and family if you are in trouble or feel threatened has been released, its British developers say.

PanicMe, created by developer DataMe in consultation with local police forces, allows a user to set up a personalized response network of friends and family to be contacted when a panic alert is activated, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

A traffic light system offers three panic options — green, amber or red — depending on the seriousness of the event, and as many as 30 numbers in the phone’s contact list can be selected for each panic option.”

App Lets Phone Owners Participate In Scientific Projects

” Android smartphone owners can be citizen scientists and participate in important scientific research every time they charge their phones, U.S. researchers say.

A new phone app created at the University of California, Berkeley, will allow users to donate a phone’s idle computing power to crunch numbers for projects that could lead to breakthroughs ranging from novel medical therapies to the discovery of new stars, a university release said Tuesday.

The app was created by a Berkeley project called Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, known for its computer software that supports more than 50 volunteer computing projects around the world.”

Have You Ever Wondered Whether The Money You Spend Ends Up Funding Causes You Oppose?

BUYCOTT

” A buycott is the opposite of a boycott. Buycott helps you to organize your everyday consumer spending so that it reflects your principles.

Example: During the SOPA/PIPA debate in 2012, a number of companies pushed to pass legislation that reduced online freedom of expression, while other companies fought hard to oppose the legislation. With Buycott, a campaign can be quickly created around a cause, with the goal of targeting companies with a boycott unless they change their position, or buycotting a company to show your support.

When you use Buycott to scan a product, it will look up the product, determine what brand it belongs to, and figure out what company owns that brand (and who owns that company, ad infinitum). It will then cross-check the product owners against the companies and brands included in the campaigns you’ve joined, in order to tell you if the scanned product conflicts with one of your campaign commitments.

Meet The Groundbreaking New Encryption App Set To Revolutionize Privacy And Freak Out The Feds.

” For the past few months, some of the world’s leading cryptographers have been keeping a closely guarded secret about a pioneering new invention. Today, they’ve decided it’s time to tell all.

Back in October, the startup tech firm Silent Circle ruffled governments’ feathers with a “surveillance-proof” smartphone app to allow people to make secure phone calls and send texts easily. Now, the company is pushing things even further—with a groundbreaking encrypted data transfer app that will enable people to send files securely from a smartphone or tablet at the touch of a button. (For now, it’s just being released for iPhones and iPads, though Android versions should come soon.) That means photographs, videos, spreadsheets, you name it—sent scrambled from one person to another in a matter of seconds.

“This has never been done before,” boasts Mike Janke, Silent Circle’s CEO. “It’s going to revolutionize the ease of privacy and security.”

… HOW THE ROMNEY CAMPAIGN SUPPRESSED ITS OWN VOTE

” As Republicans try to explain their Election Day losses in terms of policy, tactics, and strategy, one factor is emerging as the essential difference between the Obama and Romney campaigns on November 6: the absolute failure of Romney’s get-out-the-vote effort, which underperformed even John McCain’s lackluster 2008 turnout. One culprit appears to be “Orca,” the Romney’s massive technology effort, which failed completely.

A source within the Romney campaign agreed to share his reflections on Project Orca with Breitbart News:

It’s easy to point fingers after a loss and I wouldn’t normally do it, but consider what happened.

Project Orca was supposed to enable poll watchers to record voter names on their smartphones, by listening for names as voters checked in. This would give the campaign real-time turnout data, so they could redirect GOTV resources throughout the day where it was most needed. They recruited 37,000 swing state volunteers for this.”
