Female Fugitive Found 37 Years After Escape

 

 

 

” A 60-year-old woman who escaped from a Michigan prison 37 years ago has been captured in San Diego.

  Judy Lynn Hayman made her flight from justice in 1977 after serving eight months for attempting to steal clothes from a Detroit-area store.”

 

 

 

” She was tracked down after severe winter weather forced a Michigan corrections officer to stay indoors, prompting him to dust off old files.

  Lieutenant Charles Levens sent fingerprint requests to the FBI on all of the old cases and Hayman’s matched those of a woman arrested in San Diego.

  Russ Marlan, a spokesman for the Michigan Corrections Department, said: “We can’t just write it off. We don’t have the ability to say, ‘It’s been a long time. You’re free to go.'”

” After a few dog treats disappeared, employees at a Dollar General store in Clinton soon discovered their thief was a four-legged bandit.

  Cato the husky spends most of his days lounging around his Clinton house, but it’s what he does when he gets out that has his owner worried.

” My dog was shoplifting,” laughed Holly Darden, Cato’s owner.

  Wednesday morning, Cato got off his leash and took off. And not long after his escape, the Dollar General store on South Broad Street was robbed.

” We didn’t know it happened because he just snuck in with the customers,” said store manager Anastasia Polson.

  Polson said it happened twice within a few minutes. She said someone had stolen pig ears, beef bones, dog food and treats off the shelf.”

Shoplifting and theft play a major role in the cost of doing business and as is typically the case in the business world that cost gets passed on to the consumer . That means that the law-abiding shoppers , you and I , ultimately pay for the shoplifter’s scores .

   This man obviously had had enough and decided to do his part . We should all be so forthright and courageous . Fighting back is the best way to decrease crime and increase public safety . It’s exactly the “it’s none of my business” attitude that has led us to a society of dependence , fear and loss of liberty . Face it , the government can’t do for us , we need to do for ourselves , and this gentleman struck a blow for us all when he knocked out the thief .
