” Our nation’s control freaks got even freakier in 2014–from jetpacks to parking apps, eco-ATMs and powdered alcohol, they were determined to kill anything cutting edge.

  They targeted everything from dogs in parks to births at home, and they’ll sic cops on you for hoarding or smelling bad. You might even get busted for doing things that are legal–like vaping while driving, warning motorists about speed traps, or putting up Christmas lights.

  And whether it’s yanking chocolate milk, boogie boards, homemade libraries or sunscreen(?!), the control freaks are (all together now!): Doing it for the children.

  It’s fitting, then, that 2014’s Nanny of the Year recipients justified their power grab on the same grounds (although the real reason may have more to do with protecting city officials from future caught-on-tape embarrassments). “

  Global Times, an English-language newspaper published by China’s state-run People’s Daily, has carried two withering editorials in recent days.

“ The lame-duck president will be further crippled” in the wake of a GOP victory, the newspaper warned in one before the voting was complete. “He has done an insipid job, offering nearly nothing to his supporters. US society has grown tired of his banality.”

“ This will be the most recent manifestation of America’s weakness and they will figure that into their deliberation,” said Jon Hunstman, a Republican who served as U.S. Ambassador to China under Obama and pointed to Chinese adeptness at sizing up power. “They will see it through that prism and consider whether this president still has the swat to actually get anything done.” “

” Russia’s deputy prime minister laughed off President Obama’s sanction against him today  asking “Comrade @BarackObama” if “some prankster” came up with the list.

  The Obama administration hit 11 Russian and Ukrainian officials with sanctions today as punishment for Russia’s support of Crimea’s referendum. Among them: aides to President Vladimir Putin, a top government official, senior lawmakers, Crimean officials, the ousted president of Ukraine, and a Ukrainian politician and businessman allegedly tied to violence against protesters in Kiev.

  It remains to be seen whether the sanctions will dissuade Russia from annexing Crimea, but one an early clue that they will not be effective came just hours later when President Putin signed a decree recognizing Crimea as an independent state, perhaps an early step towards annexation.

  U.S. official have warned of additional sanctions for Russian action, hoping it will deter Russia from any further aggression towards Ukraine, but it didn’t appear to upset the often outspoke Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.”

” A citizen speaks to the City Council in opposition to a local “loaded carry” ban ordinance one of the Councilors has brought for consideration. No facts, figures, statistics, or other evidence of any existing problem has been presented by the sponsoring Councilor. She has however, made emotional pleas to “protect the children”, dropped the “Sandy Hook” tragedy as supporting gun regulation, and other such bullshit.

  She actually said “I know there are statistics out there but I didn’t look them up”. WTF

  Meanwhile, the Chief of Police has stated that the town has NEVER had an incident involving an open carrier. Hmmmmm no problem? Why an ordinance then? Oh yeah….to FEEL good.

  This citizen uses satire to point out the idiocy of the proposed ordinance.

  It seems what the producers intended and what A&E envisioned with the show is much different than the show that they ended up with, but they didn’t do anything about it because it was so wildly popular and so wildly profitable. But even with all the money, they have never really been comfortable with what happened.

  This is what happened. The whole idea of the show was to parade these nouveau riche Christian hillbillies around so that we could laugh at them. “Look at them,” we were supposed to say. “Look how backward they are! Look what they believe! Can you believe they really live this way and believe this stuff? See how they don’t fit in? HAHAHA” “

Jon Stewart Takes CNN To Task With Epic Mockery Of Network’s Jodi Arias Trial Coverage

 

” Jon Stewart has repeatedly ridiculed and slammed CNN in the past few weeks, most recently on Monday during an interview with Christiane Amanpour. He gave the cable network a brief respite Tuesday night before going right back to hammering them for one particularly odd moment in their otherwise unexciting coverage of the Jodi Arias trial: Ashleigh Banfield doing a satellite interview with Nancy Grace… when the two of them were a few feet away from each other in the same Arizona parking lot.

Stewart explained how Banfield and Grace were set up as if they were in different locations, it’s pretty obvious that the same vehicles are going through both shots. Which meant either they were sitting pretty close to each other or, as Stewart hypothesized, it could be that Arizona is plagued by a “seven-mile long Bus Ness Monster.”

Stewart was amazed by the audacity of CNN making his “pretty shameful” gesture, though he figured it could have been because Banfield has taken out a restraining order against Nancy Grace. They did try to create the illusion of not being so close to each other, and when Grace couldn’t hear Banfield right, Stewart just shouted at her to “take your finger out of your fucking ear because she’s right there!” He asked, “Is anyone at CNN allowed indoors anymore?” “

We laugh precisely because comedians momentarily liberate us from the restrictions that conventional society imposes on us. We applaud comedians because they say right out in front of an audience what, supposedly, nobody is allowed to say in public. Paradoxically, then, the more permissive American society has become, the harder it has become to write comedy. As censorship laws have been relaxed and people have been allowed to say and show almost anything in movies and television—above all, to deal with formerly taboo sexual material—comedy writers, such as the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, must have begun to wonder if there is any way left to offend audiences.

The genius of Parker and Stone was to see that in our day a new frontier of comic transgression has opened up because of the phenomenon known as political correctness.”
