Bloomberg’s $50 Million Anti-Gun Campaign Starts Off With A Video Trying To Scare You And Your Kids
” Michael Bloomberg has pledged to pour 50 million dollars into his new gun control advocacy group, Everytown. The goal is to create a grass roots network of concerned mothers, mayors and Hollywood celebrities that can work to persuade Congress as effectively as the pro-gun lobby.”

” Are schools and colleges dangerous places, with lots of gun violence?
Some groups paint a picture of these places being particularly unsafe. Supposedly both murders and firearm suicides are very common at educational institutions. Last Wednesday, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s two groups, Moms Demand Gun Sense in America and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, jointly released a report that received massive , uncritical , news , coverage .
They claimed that 44 shootings occurred in schools and colleges nationwide since the Newtown, Conn. massacre on Dec. 14, 2012 and Feb. 10 of this year. Out of the 44 shootings, a total of 28 died. To dramatize their numbers, Bloomberg’s groups emphasized that one of these attacks occurred every 10 days.
But their statistics are not what they seem. Included in the numbers are suicides. Also included are late night shootings taking place in school parking lots, on their grounds or even off school property, often involving gangs. As “shootings,” they also include any incident where shots were fired, even when nobody was injured.”
To illustrate their biased point of view in pursuit of their anti-gun agenda they have grossly misrepresented what constitutes a “school shooting” along the very same lines they use when talking about the deaths of “children” from guns . Below are some of what Bloomberg considers “school shootings” …
” • A student at Eastern Florida State College retrieved his gun from his car when two men attacked him. One of the men was striking the student with a pool cue, and the student fired his gun wounding him. The gun was legally stored in the student’s car and the police found that he had acted in self-defense.
• A 19-year-old was killed at 9pm in a field near the Hillside Elementary School in San Leandro, California.
• A professor at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology committed suicide in an empty classroom.
• A 23-year-old man committed suicide late at night on school grounds when no one was around the Algona High/Middle School in Iowa.
• A 38-year-old man was shot to death at 2am on the grounds of the Clarksville, Tennessee High School.
• A 19-year-old man committed suicide in the parking lot of a Portland, Maine high school. No one at the school was threatened.”
But even when the Statist media bends the statistics to suit their agenda they still cannot prove their contention that schools are becoming increasingly commonplace .
” Contrary to what many people believe, high school shootings have actually been falling over the last two decades . To illustrate this let’s compare the five school years 1992-93 to 1996-97 with the five school years from 2008-09 to 2012-13. During the first period, the number of non-gang, non-suicide shooting deaths averaged 25 a year. During the recent five-year period, it averaged less than half that, 10 per year – and that figure does include the horrific Newtown massacre.
To put these numbers in perspective, there are about 50 million young people between the ages of 6 and 17. Another 21 million , people are enrolled in colleges.”

Bloomberg funneled the money into Virginia through his PAC, USA Independence and advertisements have been running on radio and television since Tuesday. One television ad in particular targets the “gun show loophole” and states in a voiceover, “The gun show loophole. It means anyone can buy a gun without a background check.” The ad shows photos of mass murders Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech), Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook), Aaron Alexis (Navy Yard) and James Holmes (Aurora Colorado theater) while implying these killers purchased their guns through this so-called “loophole.”

” The father of a young boy fatally shot in the Newtown massacre last year stopped in Richmond on Thursday as part of a “No More Names” national bus tour to drum up support for universal background checks for gun purchases.
“It’s something that shouldn’t have happened,” said Neil Heslin, whose 6-year-old son, Jesse Lewis, was one of 20 students and six adults fatally shot at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. “It’s something that can’t happen again. It’s something that’s got to be changed, and we can help prevent that.”
Speaking to a sparse crowd — perhaps 15 local supporters — Heslin said one of the simplest things that could be done “to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands” is for Congress to pass legislation that would expand background checks for all firearm transactions, including private sales.”

Now, according to a report on Buzz Feed, numerous mayors are abandoning the organization, and new mayors are more hestitant to join the group than in the past.

” According to an old version of its member list, saved on a blog dated back to late February, more than 50 mayors who were then listed on MAIG’s website are no longer there. Most of the mayors whose names are no longer affiliated with the group are off the list either because they resigned or lost an election, but others have specifically asked to be removed.
At least two mayors, Mayor Donnalee Lozeau of Nashua, NH and the mayor of Rockford, Illinois, Larry Morrissey, left the group earlier this year due to the overreaching and ever expanding anti-gun efforts of the group. Many mayors thought the group’s primary purpose was to keep guns away from criminals, but as the group began to lobby for bans on certain types of weapons, magazine capacity limits and further gun legislation, it has become clear that Michael Bloomberg is using the group to spread his personal, anti-gun politics to other areas of the country.”

Bloomberg Using Taxpayer Resources To Publish And Maintain Anti Gun Websites
” The MAIG Action Fund (which is supposedly separate from the main MAIG organization) is registered as a 501c4 non-profit, you know, the same designation that the IRS refused to many conservative groups for being “political” in nature. The organization is largely funded by Bloomberg’s personal fortune and the mayor has spent over $14 million of his own funds on the group.
According to POLITICO, several domain names for the organization are registered with and maintained by New York City’s IT department and city employees. From the report,
Two domains – mayorsagainstillegalguns.com and mayorsagainstillegalguns.org – both list the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications as the registrants.”

Bloomberg Group Grades Lawmakers’ Gun Votes
” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg‘s Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition will now rate lawmakers on their gun records, the coalition’s director said.
The coalition of more than 900 mayors across the country was expected to announce a scoring system Tuesday, with grades of A through F, much like those of the National Rifle Association, Director Mark Glaze told The Washington Post.
“For decades, the NRA has done an admirable job of tracking to minute detail how members of Congress stand on gun bills. We’ve simply decided to do the same,” Glaze said.
NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told the Post the Mayors Against Illegal Guns scoring system would likely not have the same effect as the NRA’s.”
