39,000-Yr-Old Mammoth With Blood On Display In Japan

” The well-preserved carcass of Yuka, a 39,000-year-old female woolly mammoth found trapped in an ice tomb on the Novosibirsk Islands, Russia will be put on public display in Yokohama, Japan from July 13 until September 16.”

” According to Digital Journal, the exceptionally well preserved carcass found in March was trapped in an ice tomb with much of the upper torso and two legs buried in soil showing signs of gnawing by both prehistoric and modern predators.”

Austerity Myth

” Europe’s struggles prove that “austerity” fails!

With a condescending sigh, they explain that Europe made deep cuts in government spending, and the result was today’s high unemployment. “With erstwhile middle-class workers reduced to picking through garbage in search of food, austerity has already gone too far,” writes Paul Krugman in The New York Times.

One problem with this conclusion: European governments didn’t cut! If workers pick through garbage, cuts can’t be a reason, since they didn’t happen.

Some European countries tried to reduce deficits by raising taxes. England slapped a 25 percent tax increase on the wealthy, but it didn’t bring in the revenues hoped for. Rich people move their assets elsewhere, or just stop working as much.

Iceland was hit by bank collapses — but government ignored street protests and cut real spending. Iceland’s budget deficit fell from 13 percent of gross domestic product to 3. Iceland’s economy’s is now growing.

Canada slashed spending 20 years ago and now outranks the U.S. on many economic indicators.

Around the same time, Japan went the other way, investing heavily in the public sector in an attempt to jump-start its economy, much as the U.S. did with “stimulus” under President Obama. The result? Japan’s economy stagnated.”

Russian Bombers Buzz U.S. Territory — Again

” Russian strategic bombers conducted flights near the U.S. defense zone close to northern Alaska and the Aleutian Islands last week, Moscow’s latest incident of nuclear saber-rattling against the United States, according to defense and military officials.

Two Bear H nuclear-capable bombers were detected flying into the military’s Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone near the Aleutians, where a strategic-missile-defense radar is located, and along Alaska’s North Slope by the Arctic and Chukchi seas on April 28 and 29, military officials told the Washington Free Beacon.

Lt. Cmdr. Bill Lewis, a spokesman with the U.S. Northern Command, confirmed a U.S. fighter intercept of the bombers but declined to provide details.

“Two U.S. F-22’s from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, were launched and visually identified Russian aircraft on the night of April 28, as the Russian air force flew standard out-of-area flights near Alaska,” Lt. Cmdr. Lewis said. The bombers did not enter U.S. airspace, he said.

What ever happened to that new beginning in our relations with the Russians and all of that talk of “Smart Diplomacy” ?

” It was the fifth incident of Russian strategic bombers flying against the United States since June, when bombers were intercepted near Alaska during a large-scale strategic nuclear exercise that Russian military officials said involved practice strikes against U.S. missile defense sites in Alaska.

Less than a month later, on July 4, two more Bears flew the closest to the Northern California coast that Russian aircraft have flown since the days of the Cold War.

Then in February, two Bears circled Guam, a U.S. territory and key military hub in the Pacific. Additionally, Backfire strategic bombers flew simulated strikes against U.S. missile defenses and bases in Japan last month.”

Your Tax Dollars At Work: Subsidizing The Security Of Wealthy Allies

” It’s Tax Day, and for millions of Americans that means ponying up to the IRS. The federal government does many things these days—most of which would be more efficiently carried out at the local level, or in the private sector. But Uncle Sam also engages in a particular form of charity that many Americans overlook: spending many tens of billions of dollars to defend wealthy, developed nations.

A new Cato infographic puts it all in perspective. It shows how much American taxpayers spend to subsidize the security, and to defend the interests, of other nations that are more than capable of defending themselves.”

” Looked at another way, U.S. alliances constitute a massive wealth transfer from U.S. taxpayers (and their Chinese creditors) to bloated European welfare states and technologically-advanced Asian nations.”

North Korea Readies Missile Launch As Fears Of A Covert Cyberwar Grow

” The prospect of a North Korean missile test is causing concern in Japan, which is easily within range. In Tokyo, Yoshihide Suga, a government spokesman, said that Japan was preparing for a “worst-case” scenario, and urged China and Russia to play “significant roles” in defusing tensions. Experts and officials have dismissed Pyongyang’s threats to launch nuclear strikes against the US, given the rudimentary state of its weapons capability. But it could cause widespread disruption with a cyberattack, according to a defector who worked for the regime’s 3,000-member cyberwarfare unit.

The regime’s next move could be to break into US computer networks to steal information and spread viruses, Jang Se-yul, who defected to the South in 2008, told the Observer. North Korea’s hackers are suspected of being behind recent cyberattacks that paralysed computer networks at several South Korean banks and broadcasters.

“It would demonstrate that North Korea is a strong cyberpower,” Jang said. “Their prime target is the US, and they’ve been preparing for something like this for years, including when I was there in the 1990s. I can’t say how successful they would be, but it’s a possibility.” “

This Is How Far North Korea’s Missiles Can Reach

” North Korea on Friday reportedly moved two mobile missiles believed to be of intermediate range to the country’s east coast, potentially putting them within striking distance of Japan and American bases in Guam. If the reports are accurate, it’s the latest escalation in an increasingly tense situation which may result in a military conflict.

North Korea’s threatening language towards South Korea and the United States is becoming increasingly bellicose, going so far as to approve the use of nuclear weapons should a military conflict break out on the Korean peninsula. Propaganda videos from North Korea have claimed the country could turn Seoul, Washington and other cities into a “sea of flames” — but North Korea is notorious for outlandish provocations that simply aren’t supported by reality.

It’s important to note, however, that there’s doubt as to whether North Korea possesses nuclear weapons small enough to place atop a missile or if it would place one of their few nuclear weapons atop one of its often less-than-reliable missiles. So how far can North Korea’s missiles really reach? This chart, based on data from the BBC, shows the estimated reach of North Korea’s various projectiles.”

U.S. F-22 Stealth Jets Join South Korea Drills Amid Saber-Rattling

” The advanced, radar-evading F-22 Raptors were deployed to Osan Air Base, the main U.S. Air Force base in South Korea, from Japan to support ongoing bilateral exercises, the U.S. military command in South Korea said in a statement that urged North Korea to restrain itself.

“(North Korea) will achieve nothing by threats or provocations, which will only further isolate North Korea and undermine international efforts to ensure peace and stability in Northeast Asia,” the statement said.

Saber-rattling on the Korean peninsula drew a plea for peace from Pope Francis, who in his first Easter Sunday address called for a diplomatic solution to the crisis on the Korean peninsula. ”

Japan Breaks China’s Stranglehold On Rare Metals With Sea-Mud Bonanza

” Japanese scientists have found vast reserves of rare earth metals on the Pacific seabed that can be mined cheaply, a discovery that may break the Chinese monopoly on a crucial raw material needed in hi-tech industries and advanced weapons systems.

“We have found deposits that are just two to four metres from the seabed surface at higher concentrations than anybody ever thought existed, and it won’t cost much at all to extract,” said professor Yasuhiro Kato from Tokyo University, the leader of the team.

While America, Australia, and other countries have begun to crank up production of the seventeen rare earth elements, they have yet to find viable amounts of the heavier metals such as dysprosium, terbium, europium, and ytterbium that are most important.

China has a near total monopoly in the heavier end of the spectrum, though it is also the dominant supplier of the whole rare earth complex after driving rivals out of business in the 1990s. It still accounts for 97pc of global supply.

Beijing shocked the world when it suddenly began to restrict exports in 2009, prompting furious protests and legal complaints by both the US and the EU at the World Trade Organisation. China claimed that it was clamping down on smuggling and environmental abuse.”

China Joins U.S., Japan, EU In Condemning North Korea Nuclear Test

” North Korea conducted its third nuclear test on Tuesday in defiance of existing U.N. resolutions, drawing condemnation from the United States, Japan, Europe and Pyongyang’s only major ally, China, which summoned the North Korean ambassador to protest.

The North said the test had “greater explosive force” than the 2006 and 2009 tests. Its KCNA news agency said it had used a “miniaturized” and lighter nuclear device, indicating that it had again used plutonium which is more suitable for use as a missile warhead.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the third of his line to rule the country, has presided over two long-range rocket launches and a nuclear test during his first a year in power, pursuing policies that have propelled his impoverished and malnourished country closer to becoming a nuclear weapons power.”

Two Russian Fighter Jets Breach Japan Airspace: Tokyo

” Two Russian fighter jets violated Japanese airspace on Thursday as Tokyo scrambled its own planes in response, the defence ministry said, reportedly the first such incident in five years.

The Russian planes were detected off the coast of northernmost Hokkaido island for just over a minute, shortly after Japan’s new prime minister said he wants to find a “mutually acceptable solution” to a decades-old territorial row between the countries.

Japan’s foreign ministry lodged a formal protest over the incursion by a pair of Russian Su-27 fighters at about 3:00 pm local time (0600 GMT).

“Today, around 3:00 pm, military fighters belonging to Russian Federation breached our nation’s airspace above territorial waters off Hokkaido’s Rishiri island,” the foreign ministry said.”

‘Hurry Up And Die’: Japanese Minister Bemoans Cost Of Prolonged Life

Taro Aso, appointed as Finance and Deputy Prime Minister (AFP Photo / Kazuhiro Nogi)

” Well known in Japan for his harsh mode of speech, Deputy PM and the head of the Finance Ministry Taro Aso told at the National Council on Social Security Reforms that the Japanese government pays for the meaningless enforced prolongation of lives of those whose days are numbered.

Gee , we always thought that the Government paid with OUR money , who knew it is the State’s money

“The minister has reportedly been referring to “tube people” in terminal condition who cannot feed themselves. The minister gave them advice to “hurry up and die,” reports AFP, instead of burdening the state with prodigal end-of-life medical care.

Almost a third of Japan’s 128 million population are older than 60. Within next half century the number of pensioners will reach 40 per cent of the population.

Though his sharp remark has sparked a scandal, Aso has not resiled from his statement, explaining that this is his personal belief and it does not correlate with “what the end-of-life medical care system should be.” “

Japan has gotten the jump on the Obamacare bandwagon … but never fear rationed healthcare is on it’s way .

This just goes to show the attitude of the State . We are welcome as long as we are PAYING taxes but as soon as we start to receive some of our “investment” back then we become a liability that needs to just die so that we cease to drain the government coffers .

Gorilla Sales Skyrocket After Latest Gorilla Attack

” “We’ve had to deal with too many gorilla-related tragedies, and we’ve had to bury too many innocent, feces-covered victims,” said Nicole Simmons, president of the Mothers Against Gorillas coalition, who herself lost her 16-year-old son in the infamous Baker High School gorilla rampage of 1997. “It’s time to put an end to this. We need to get gorillas off the streets once and for all. Enough is enough.”

“The answer to this systemic problem is not more gorillas,” Simmons continued, her eyes welling with tears. “The answer is fewer gorillas.”

As evidence, Simmons pointed to a 2011 University of Maryland study, which found that 98 percent of Americans who own a gorilla have never used them for defense against a home invasion. Simmons also cited widely reported studies confirming that people who keep gorillas in the home are 12 times more likely to have their arms torn off, and children in those households are 19 times more likely to be picked up by the legs and bashed repeatedly into the ground.

Furthermore, many gorilla control advocates have reportedly called for statewide limits to the number of gorillas one can purchase and a federal ban on the ownership of silverbacks, referencing as an example the tight gorilla laws in countries such as Japan, England, and Australia, where the annual rate of gorilla crimes is virtually nonexistent. ”

While we believe this humor is an attempt at supporting the anti-gun side of the current debate on gun control , we find it ambiguous enough that it could be construed either way . In any event it does point out the ridiculousness of acting on an emotional level when trying to deal with a problem better solved with reason . See what you think .

Myth-Busting The Creation Of Michigan’s Middle-Class

” If you question ten Right-to-Work supporters in Michigan, then you will find more than one who will profess some version of the sentiment that the United Auto Workers was “needed in the past, but has outlived its usefulness.” Those saying this may even generally agree with hard-line UAW apologists who believe the union “built the middle class” in the state of its birth. But while Big Labor needs this myth to make its case, it contradicts a big piece of the history. Indeed, the UAW’s real historical accomplishment may have been nearly destroying some of Michigan’s middle class.

Take Japan as the clearest example. Japan didn’t really begin building passenger carsuntil the 1960s, and the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association wasn’t born until 1967. But just ten years later, American automobile makers and the UAW were under siege from Japanese competition, failing to adapt, and by 1979 Chrysler was asking for the first of its federal bailouts.

The price of Michigan’s ties to the UAWits paychecks for no workits politics, and so much more has been that high. The winners are the newly-minted middle class auto workers working in foreign-named auto plants in other places, many of them Right to Work states like Alabama and Mississippi.

The impact of the Second World War built the middle class auto worker in Michigan, and the impact of Big Labor on Michigan has moved the home of the middle class autoworker elsewhere.”

U.S. declines support for Asian allies in sea disputes with increasingly aggressive China

image

“The comments by Locklear reflect the
Obama administration’s policy of
“leading from behind” rather than
assertively. That posture has troubled
states in Asia that rely on the United
States and its naval power to
maintain stability, free and open
commerce, and transit.

The comments regarding Japan also
are unusual because the United
States has a mutual defense treaty
with Tokyo. However, the
administration was slow to invoke
the treaty as part of the Japan-China
spat. ”

” ( Yesterday ) December 7 , 1941 , A Date Which Will

Live In Infamy “

A Partial Video Of FDR’s Declaration Of War

The Entire Address In Printed Format

” Yesterday, December 7, 1941 a date which will live in infamy the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, 1 hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to tie United States and his colleague delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese Government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday the Japanese Government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

This morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our Nation.

As Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people, in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory.

I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces with the unbounded determination of our people we will gain the inevitable triumph so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire.”

China, Japan Heading Towards War

Speaking to reporters before arriving in Tokyo on a trip to Asia, Mr Panetta appealed for restraint amid mounting tensions over territorial rights in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

“I am concerned that when these countries engage in provocations of one kind or another over these various islands, that it raises the possibility that a misjudgment on one side or the other could result in violence, and could result in conflict,” Mr Panetta said, when asked about a clash between Japan and China. “

The Editors have decided that it was time for a break from the political grind and to indulge themselves with some quality in place of the usual squalor . Regular viewers my recognize some of the upcoming , sorry for the familiarity but we can’t get enough of and of these performances .

“The answer is sadly simplistic: Despite the fact that Kobe Beef, as well as Kobe Meat and Kobe Cattle, are patented terms and/or trademarks in Japan, these are neither recognized nor protected by U.S. law. As far as regulators here are concerned, Kobe beef, unlike say Florida Orange Juice, means almost nothing (the “beef” part should still come from cows). Like the recent surge in the use of the unregulated label term “natural,” it is an adjective used mainly to confuse consumers and profit from that confusion.

This matters because the reason food lovers and expense account diners want Kobe beef, and are willing to pay a huge premium for it, is because of the real Kobe’s longstanding reputation for excellence. The con the US food industry is running is leading you to believe that what you are paying huge dollars for – like the $40 NYC “Kobe” burger – is somehow linked to this heritage of excellence. It’s not.”
