” Just how long did the White House sit on intelligence on where ISIS held American hostages? Allahpundit asked that question yesterday, when the difference in sources put it between four and seven weeks. The mother of James Foley tells the Daily Beast’s Jamie Dettmer and Shane Harris that it may have been closer to four months:

  But Diane Foley, the mother of James Foley, who was the first American to be shown murdered on camera, also raised questions about the timing of the rescue effort, telling The Daily Beast that French officials had developed information about the hostages’ location as early as March, but that the U.S. government didn’t act on it.

“ That was part of our frustration,” she said. “The State Department said they were connecting with the French and everybody at the highest levels.” And yet, there was no movement on the U.S. side. “Very specific information was available as early as mid-March. And that’s what’s been so tough for us as families, because apparently they were held in the same place all those months,” Foley said.”

” Some have called it the worst summer ever.

  This may or may not include the summer when an asteroid crashed near the Yucatan peninsula, almost extinguishing life on earth. But, with Labor Day past and the kids going back to school, it’s time to reflect on the summer of 2014.

  Terrorists announced a new caliphate in Syria and Iran, as Vlad the Shirtless warned of possible nuclear exchanges in Europe. All-out war erupted between Israel and Hamas, and the entire Middle East seemed to fall apart faster than an Obamacare promise. Rioting broke out in the Midwest. (For a while it was hard to tell if the video footage was from the Middle East or the Middle West.) An Ebola outbreak killed thousands in Africa. The U.S. economy continued to stumble…

  But the controversy that caused the Twitterverse to explode was when Barack Obama showed up on TV … wearing a tan suit. (Best Headline of the summer-WaPo: The audacity of taupe) Maybe his clown suit was at the cleaners?

  More serious news outlets were concerned about Obama’s admission that he didn’t have a strategy to deal with ISIL. Obama didn’t have a strategy? This is news?

  Speaking of which, over the summer some in the media actually began to question Obama’s achievements in office. Although this may have happened only because their dictionaries finally ran out of superlatives to use.

  On the subject of ISIL, is its name ISIL, or ISIS, or IS? All have been used. To quote Bill Clinton, I guess it depends on what your definition of IS is.

  Regarding the Clintons, is it just me, or was it a little ironic that Hillary spent much of the summer promoting an autobiography of her time as Secretary of State. Curiously enough, it wasn’t titled, “At This Point, What Difference Does It Make?” “

  I know reporters didn’t get a chance to ask questions, but I had to bounce. I had a 1 p.m. tee time at Vineyard Golf Club with Alonzo Mourning and a part-owner of the Boston Celtics. Hillary and I agreed when we partied with Vernon Jordan up here, hanging out with celebrities and rich folks is fun.

  Now we are engaged in a great civil divide in Ferguson, which does not even have a golf course, and that’s why I had a “logistical” issue with going there. We are testing whether that community, or any community so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure when the nation’s leader wants nothing more than to sink a birdie putt.

  We are met on a great field of that battle, not Augusta, not Pebble Beach, not Bethpage Black, not Burning Tree, but Farm Neck Golf Club in Martha’s Vineyard, which we can’t get enough of — me, Alonzo, Ray Allen and Marvin Nicholson, my trip director and favorite golfing partner who has played 134 rounds and counting with me. “

    While we seldom find anything to recommend in Ms Dowd’s work , being the predictable progressive mouthpiece that she is , this scathing piece on the Golfer-In-Chief deserves to be read by all …  you will be glad you did …

” Special forces attempted to rescue Americans – including James Foley – held hostage by ISIS in Syria earlier this summer but failed, it was revealed today.

  The mission to save the journalist and others was carried out in early July but was unsuccessful because the hostages – being held by a group of British jihadists known as ‘The Beatles’ – could not be found.

‘ This operation involved air and ground components and was focused on a particular captor network within ISIL [also known as ISIS and IS],’ the White House said in a statement last night.

‘ Unfortunately, the mission was not successful because the hostages were not present at the targeted location.’

  It came as President Obama’s conduct attracted growing criticism after he played golf immediately  after he gave a speech condemning the murder of Mr Foley.

  Four minutes after leaving the podium Obama teed-off and was seen laughing with friends and fist-bumping them during a five-hour round at Farm Neck Golf Course on Martha’s Vineyard  – his seventh 18-holes in ten days.”
