Thief Knocks Himself Out With Brick After Failed Carjacking

Published on Mar 1, 2015

” http://www.vladtv.com – A man from Ireland was jailed and embarrassed after he knocked himself out with a brick during a failed carjacking attempt.

According to the Huffington Post, Gerry Brady talked to reporters about the incident when he found the man knocked out near his vehicle. Brady, who owns the local bar nearby says he watched the culprit attempt to break into his car several times. After a rock didn’t break the window, he tries to use a brick and knocks himself out. Brady says the suspect tried to tell the police he was the one who injured him, but they discovered his own actions caused the entire thing.

” You should have heard the [guards] laughing when they saw the video,” Brady said. “They were in stitches. Credit to them, they were straight out when we called and found the guy within minutes.”

The culprit was arrested while police continue to investigate the incident.”

Probe As Wind Turbine Collapse

” A major investigation has been launched after an 80-metre wind turbine worth £2m collapsed on a mountainside.

No-one was injured when the giant structure worth about £2 million unexpectedly buckled and hit the ground, scattering debris across a wide area of mountainside in Northern Ireland.

It was one of eight turbines on the Screggagh wind farm located between Fintona and Fivemiletown in rural Co Tyrone.

Doreen Walker, director of the operation, said officials were “working closely” with turbine supplier Nordex UK to establish the cause of the collapse.

” The Screggagh wind farm has been completely shut down since the wind turbine collapsed on Friday evening,” she said.

” It will remain shut down until Nordex UK Ltd has completed a full investigation in to the remaining seven wind turbines and confirms that they are safe to operate.”

It is understood the rotor blades spun out of control and the sound of the mechanical structure crashing to the ground could be heard up to seven miles away. Some people compared it to an explosion while others claimed to have heard the sound of grinding metal throughout the day.”

Rat-Infested Ghost Ship May Be Heading For Britain

” It sounds like a plotline to a Stephen King story — a ghost ship afloat on the high seas is drifting toward the British Isles; its only passengers are cannibal rats who have had nothing to eat but each other since the ship was set adrift.

Many people would probably pay good money to read such a story or watch it on the large screen, but they can watch it play out on the small screen — in the news. It’s a real happening involving a real ship — the Lyubov Orlova — cut loose off the coast of Canada in January 2013. It is believed to be infested with rats that have nothing to eat but other rats in order to survive their high-seas ordeal. And, it’s unaccounted for.

Built in the former Yugoslavia, the Ice-class passenger cruise ship (featuring a strengthened hull to withstand impacts with ice) has seen duty as on Antarctic and Arctic expeditions. It was seized in Newfoundland in 2010 due to outstanding money owed to a cruise charterer and it was revealed the crew had not been paid in five months. To settle debts, the ship was sold off and towed to the Dominican Republic to be scrapped. However, the tow rope snapped in stormy seas and the ship began to drift eastward off Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula (near the Hibernia oil fields).

Under contract from Husky Oil, the offshore supply vessel Atlantic Hawk regained control of the derelict ship but was ordered to set her adrift once in international waters because it “no longer poses a threat to the safety of offshore oil installations, their personnel or the marine environment.”

SS Gairsoppa: 61 Tons of Silver Found in Odyssey Exploration

” Odyssey Marine Exploration Inc. recovered 61 tons of silver this month from the SS Gairsoppa, a World War II shipwreck lodged nearly three miles below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Ireland.

Odyssey recovered 1,574 silver ingots weighing a total of about 1.8 million ounces from the SS Gairsoppa, the Tampa, Florida-based deep-sea salvage company said in a statement Monday. The 412-foot (126-meter) British cargo ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat in February 1941, according to Bloomberg.

The metal was worth about $630,000 when the Gairsoppa was sunk and about $36 million at today’s prices. Odyssey has recovered a total of 2,792 ingots from the wreck, about 99 percent of the insured silver reported to be aboard when the vessel sank.”

After 168 Years, Potato Famine Mystery Solved

” An international team of scientists has finally solved one of history’s greatest mysteries: What caused the devastating Irish potato famine of 1845? The research team, which published its findings in the journal eLife this week, used DNA sequencing of plant specimens dating from the mid-19th century to identify the pathogen that led to the death of nearly 1 million people and the mass emigration of another 2 million from Ireland by 1855. The discovery marks the first time scientists have successfully sequenced a plant’s genome from preserved samples and opens the door for further research into the evolution of pathogens and the spread of plant disease around the world.”
