New Yorkers Told To Stay Home As 2 Feet Of Snow Forecast

” New York officials told residents to stay at home as a blizzard forecasters call “life-threatening” may dump as much as two feet of snow from New York to Boston.

  Northern New Jersey, New York City, Long Island and large parts of southern New England to Boston may receive as much as 24 inches (60 centimeters) of snow, the National Weather Service said in its latest advisory. The storm has already caused more than 1,800 flight cancellations and will likely block road and rail traffic, close schools and knock out power across the U.S. Northeast.

  Snow may fall so hard and fast that commuter rail, buses and subways could shut down before workers leave for home on Monday afternoon, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said yesterday in an e-mailed statement. A blizzard warning has been posted from New Jersey to Maine’s border with Canada. “

Congress Cancels Global Warming Hearing Because of Snowstorm

 

 

 

” Moments like this are why ecoscammers no longer call it “Global Warming”, but rebranded it as “Climate Change.” Because a snowstorm is climate change too, even if it keeps you from holding hearings on the effect of climate change on climate change meetings.

The snowquester has claimed yet another casualty: Wednesday’s House hearing on global warming.

The House Science, Space and Technology Committee announced early Wednesday that it’s postponing its environmental subcommittee’s scheduled 10 a.m. hearing on the state of the science behind climate change. As a reason, it cited “weather.” “

” “We received a blizzard warning last night through the emergency broadcasting system. Most of us didn’t believe it,” she told CNN iReport. “Most of the news reports said it probably wouldn’t snow in the valley, and two hours later it was snowing.”

Avery, a 19-year-old student at the University of Arizona, said the snow was still falling Wednesday afternoon.

“My brother and I were staring out the window saying, ‘What? It’s snowing in Tucson? That’s not supposed to happen!’ ” she said, adding that she’s never seen this much snow in the area since her family moved there. Usually the area gets no more than a dusting of snow once a year.

A look at effects in states and provinces in the path of the storm sweeping across the Northeast and southern Canada:

 

CONNECTICUT

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy imposed a travel ban Friday on the state’s highways and deployed National Guard troops around the state for rescues or other emergencies.

A coastal flood warning was posted for southern Fairfield County, saying Friday evening’s high tide could be 3 to 5 feet higher than normal in western Long Island Sound.

The state’s two biggest utilities planned for the possibility that up to 30 percent of their customers _ more than 400,000 homes and businesses _ would lose power. As of early Saturday, more than 35,000 had no service.

Nonessential state workers were ordered to stay home Friday. Schools, colleges and state courthouses were also closed. All flights after 1:30 p.m. at Bradley Airport near Hartford were canceled. Connecticut Transit ceased all bus service by 6 p.m. Friday.

Some gas stations ran out of fuel Thursday night during the rush to prepare for the storm.
