CRANK CALL

Here is one of the crank calls

” Direct dial numbers purporting to be for some of the most secure U.S. military installations have been posted online and have since been the subject of prank calls .

The numbers include the White House Situation Room, the direct line to the U.S. Department of State Operations Center Senior Watch Officer, the National Military Command Center at the Pentagon, the U.S. Strategic Command bunker, the Campisi Alert Facility, the Operations Room for the National Airborne Operations Center, the Raven Rock Mountain Complex, the active control room of the 91st Operations Group, the 740th Missile Squadron and the Kirtland Underground Munitions Storage Complex. “

” CNN senior medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen has been trying for two weeks to sign up for ObamaCare.

Unfortunately as she reported on Monday’s New Day, despite trying for fourteen days including at hours that were claimed to be “off peak,” she still hasn’t been able to establish an account … “

NSA Collecting E-Mail And IM Contacts Globally

” The National Security Agency has been collecting contacts from people’s personal e-mail address books and instant messaging accounts in an effort to detect relationships that might be crucial to government security, the Washington Post is reporting.

The agency is collecting the data from overseas points and many of the contacts belong to Americans, the Post reports.

The Post bases its report on word from senior intelligence officials and top secret documents, including a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden..

The majority of the contacts harvested come from Yahoo and Hotmail accounts, but others also come from Facebook, Google and unspecified other providers, the Post reports. The contacts amount to a sizeable portion of the world’s e-mail and instant messaging accounts, according to the news organization.”

1st Amendment Battle Over ‘Gun-Walking’ Expose

” The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is blocking the main whistleblower in the Fast and Furious case from publishing a book, claiming his retelling of the Mexico “gun-walking” scandal will hurt morale inside the embattled law enforcement agency, according to documents obtained by The Washington Times.

ATF’s dispute with Special Agent John Dodson is setting up a First Amendment showdown that is poised to bring together liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union and conservatives in Congress who have championed Mr. Dodson’s protection as a whistleblower.

The ACLU is slated to become involved in the case Monday, informing ATF it is representing Mr. Dodson and filing a formal protest to the decision to reject his request to publish the already written book, sources told The Times, speaking only on the condition of anonymity.”

FEMA Region 3 Author Senator Songstad Goes Public

” Retired South Dakota Senator Sheldon Songstad, who represented  Sioux Falls from 1975-1988, has emerged from the shadows to discuss his memo about FEMA Region 3 .  According to Songstad the FEMA Region 3 memo was only intended for a select group of friends, but managed to make its way to numerous alternative and mainstream media outlets.

Songstad, calling in from a secure line to  the Rick Wiles Show claims he is out of the country traveling incognito, making his whereabouts unknown.  When asked where FEMA Region 3 was by host Rick Wiles , Songstad said “I think it’s the four states up around Washington DC, Virginia, up in that area. ” I don’t know about you but if i’m issuing an alert for a FEMA region I’m going to sound a little more convincing than “around Washington DC, Virginia up in that area.”  Perhaps we can dismiss Songstads lack of geographical expertise to old age. That statement wasn’t the only thing that sounded funny, when asked other questions about his FEMA alert Songstad gave a simple one word answer and refused to elaborate.”

The Title Says It All

” You’d think that in the age of medical pot, legal pot in Colorado and Washington, and a majority of Americans in favor of legalizing the drug, we’d at least have ended the 1980s practice of snatching kids from pot-smoking parents. You’d be wrong.

The recent case of Baby Bree underscores that parents can lose custody of their children even if they legally grow and consume marijuana in their home.

A referee recently ruled that Maria and Gordon Steven Green were subjecting their six-month-old baby to possible danger because of grass.

Gordon Steven Green uses the drug to treat his epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. This is certainly not the only incident.. In fact, it’s not even the only recent incident in Michigan. “

Feds Try To Close The Ocean Because Of Shutdown

” Just before the weekend, the National Park Service informed charter boat captains in Florida that the Florida Bay was “closed” due to the shutdown. Until government funding is restored, the fishing boats are prohibited from taking anglers into 1,100 square-miles of open ocean. Fishing is also prohibited at Biscayne National Park during the shutdown.

The Park Service will also have rangers on duty to police the ban… of access to an ocean. The government will probably use more personnel and spend more resources to attempt to close the ocean, than it would in its normal course of business.

This is governing by temper-tantrum.”

” The National Border Patrol Council has come forward to reveal to the American public once again management practices that could be risking the lives of Americans — and the lives of illegal immigrants.

Shawn Moran, Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council, spoke exclusively with Breitbart News and claimed that Border Patrol management has begun the practice of ordering Border Patrol Agents to stand down and cease pursuing drug smugglers, human smugglers and traffickers, and illegal aliens. He also warned it could lead to illegal aliens entering the country from nations associated with terrorism.”

Join EFF & The Stopwatching.us Coalition In DC On October 26th

” This summer, some of our worst fears and suspicions about the NSA have been confirmed. We now have evidence that the NSA is actively undermining the basic security of the Internet. It iscollecting millions and millions of phone records of individuals not suspected of any crime. It issurveilling journalists.

The NSA’s overreaching surveillance is creating a climate of fear and chilling free speech. Its addiction to secrecy makes real accountability impossible

But there’s a movement forming to change all of this. And we’re about to take the next step.

On the weekend of October 26 — the 12th anniversary of the signing of the USA PATRIOT Act — thousands of people from across the political spectrum will unite in Washington, D.C. to take a stand against unconstitutional surveillance. Please join EFF in D.C. for a day of grassroots training and citizen lobbying on October 25th and a historic rally and petition delivery on October 26th.”

OFFICIAL SIDESTEPS QUERIES ON CELLPHONE LOCATIONS

” The head of the National Security Agency sidestepped questions Thursday from a senator about whether the NSA has ever used Americans cellphone signals to collect information on their whereabouts that would allow tracking of the movements of individual callers.

Asked twice by Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., if NSA had ever collected or made plans to collect such data, NSA chief Gen. Keith Alexander answered both times by reading from a letter provided to senators who had asked the same question last summer. He also cited a classified version of the letter that was sent to senators and said, “What I don’t want to do … is put out in an unclassified forum anything that’s classified.”

Wyden promised to keep asking.

“I believe this is something the American people have a right to know, whether NSA has ever collected or made plans to collect cell site information,” Wyden said.”

ATF Misplaced 420 Million Cigarettes In Stings

” Government agents acting without authorization conducted dozens of undercover investigations of illegal tobacco sales, misused some of $162 million in profits from the stings and lost track of at least 420 million cigarettes, the Justice Department’s inspector general said Wednesday.

In one case, ATF agents sold $15 million in cigarettes and later turned over $4.9 million in profits from the sales to a confidential informant — even though the agency did not properly account for the transaction.

The ATF’s newly-appointed director, B. Todd Jones, said the audit covered only selected, “historical” ATF investigations between 2006 and 2011, and said the agency had tightened its internal guidelines since then.

The audit described widespread lack of ATF oversight and inadequate paperwork in the agency’s “churning investigations,” undercover operations that use proceeds from illicit cigarette sales to pay for the ATF’s costs. The audit came as a new blow to a beleaguered agency still reeling from congressional inquiries into the ATF’s flawed handling of the Operation Fast and Furious weapons tracking probes in Mexico.”

EU to Suspend US Data Sharing After Swift’s Interbank Messaging System Breach

” The European Union has threatened to suspend or even terminate the crucial EU-US Terrorist Finance Tracking Programme, after allegations that the US National Security Agency (NSA) spied on bank-to-bank messaging via the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (Swift) network.

More than 10,000 banking organisations, securities institutions, and corporate customers in 212 countries use Swift every day to exchange millions of standardised financial messages.

The NSA has been widely criticised over its surveillance programme that spied on politicians, bureaucrats, and businesses across the world via phone calls and internet activity.

The revelations about the NSA surveillance came from top-secret documents leaked by Edward Snowden, a former contractor at the agency, who is currently in exile in Russia.”

Special Subsidies For Hill Workers Trample On The Founders’ Code Of Equal Application Of The Law

” As close observers of history and human nature, James Madison and the other Founders of the U.S. Constitution knew that the equal and unbiased application of the law to all people, especially elected officials, is essential to freedom and justice and one of the primary safeguards from authoritarianism and oppression by a ruling class.

And so, referring to the members of Congress, James Madison wrote in Federalist No. 57: “[T]hey can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as on the great mass of the society.”

Today, elected officials need to be reminded of these truths. Under pressure from Congress, the White House has carved out a special exemption for Congress and its staffers from ObamaCare—the law it recently deemed necessary for the entire country. No Republicans voted for ObamaCare. Yet it appears that some of them support the exemption President Obama approved on his own—so they would not have to go on record with a vote for or against it.

Congress complains that without its special subsidies the Hill will suffer a “brain drain” as staffers leave their jobs because of increasing out-of-pocket insurance costs. Heaven forbid Congress suffer the same fate as private companies like UPS, which recently had to cut health-care benefits entirely for employees’ spouses; or labor unions, like the 40,000 International Longshore and Warehouse Union workers who recently left the AFL-CIO citing as one factor ObamaCare’s tax on their “Cadillac” health-care plans.”

Bozell, Varney Discuss Networks’ Nearly 3-Month Blackout of Damning Revelations in IRS Scandal

” An incredulous Stuart Varney brought NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell on his Varney & Co. program this morning to discuss how  “[t]he mainstream media [have been] completely ignoring one the the biggest news stories of the year,” by devoting zero news stories to the IRS scandal since July.

“Is that accurate, they haven’t even mentioned it since those dates we put up on the screen?!” Varney asked Bozell at the segment. “It’s fascinating and so troubling” because we have “one of the greatest abuses in my lifetime, the greatest abuse of federal power ever, where you’re using the most-feared arm of government  against the people and you’re seeing one revelation after another” which the networks simply refuse to cover. “

What Really Happened To Navy SEAL Team 6?

” Yet, their own government betrayed them. Several days after the bin Laden operation, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. — in a pathetic attempt to spike the football and gloat — publicly revealed their central role in the raid. His revelations put a giant target on the backs of every Navy SEAL Team 6 member. A covert unit, whose mission is to operate in the murky shadows, was exposed as the group that eliminatedal Qaeda’s chief mastermind. Mr. Biden’s reckless actions — followed by President Obama’s own words acknowledging the secret unit’s operation — jeopardized the Navy SEALs’ safety. Jihadists bent on revenge began an intense manhunt. The hunters now became the hunted.

Upon hearing of Mr. Biden’s disclosure, SEAL members were stunned. Many of them immediately contacted family members, warning them to eradicate all personal information from social-media sites. Aaron Vaughn, one of the SEALs eventually killed in the ambush, told his mother, Karen Vaughn, to delete every reference to SEAL Team 6 from her Facebook and Twitter accounts.

“I never heard Aaron this concerned and worried in his entire life,” Mrs. Vaughn said in an interview. “He called me and said, ‘Mom, you and Dad have to take everything down. Biden has just put a huge target on everybody.’”

Tragically, Aaron Vaughn was right. Mr. Biden is often portrayed in the liberal media as an amiable buffoon. His gaffes are written off as Joe simply being Joe — a loveable uncle figure who has a tendency to shoot his mouth off. That is pernicious nonsense. Mr. Biden is a cynical opportunist, who will say and do anything to advance Mr. Obama’s agenda. He hung the SEALs out to dry in order to score cheap political points. He compromised a highly sensitive, covert operation that ended up costing dozens of U.S. lives.

SEAL-gate is potentially a bigger scandal than Benghazi, Libya. The administration — along with the top military brass — are desperately trying to cover up what took place on that fateful raid.”

And Suprise , Surprise The Big Three Refuse To Report It

” ABC, CBS and NBC have so far refused to report the latest bombshell in the IRS scandal – a newly released list from the agency that showed it flagged political groups for “anti-Obama rhetoric.” On September 18 the USA Today, in a front page story, reported the following: “Newly uncovered IRS documents show the agency flagged political groups based on the content of their literature, raising concerns specifically about ‘anti-Obama rhetoric,’ inflammatory language and ‘emotional’ statements made by non-profits seeking tax-exempt status.”

Not only have ABC, CBS and NBC not reported this story they’ve flat out stopped covering the IRS scandal on their evening and morning shows. It’s been 85 days since ABC last touched the story on June 26. NBC hasn’t done a report for 84 days and CBS last mentioned the IRS scandal 56 days ago on July 24.”

Socialite, 47, Tells How Her $26,000 A MONTH Allowance Was Cut Off By Father After She Told Mom About Affair With Martha Stewart

Family torn apart: At first Laura, second right, kept her knowledge of the affair from herself. But in March she finally broke the news to her mother Bonnie, right. But both parents reacted by distancing themselves from their daughter

” Martha Stewart has always been known as an expert homemaker, but now a New York socialite is accusing her of home-wrecking.

47-year-old Laura Krupinski, the daughter of famed Hamptons builder Ben Krupinski, told the New York Post today that her father cut her off after she found out about an affair he was having with 72-year-old media mogul.

The married man is a popular builder among the Hamptons set, and worked with Ms Stewart in the past restoring her 24-room house in East Hampton on Lily Pond Lane.

New York Times article from 1992 referenced how he would often shuttle Ms Stewart to and from her home in Connecticut during construction. A video on Ms Stewart’s website shows the two fishing.

Daughter Laura, a former model turned jewelry designer, says she found out about their alleged affair a few years ago while they were all in Palm Beach. Ms Krupinski says she saw her father and Martha out on the beach one morning and ‘it was obvious something was going on’.

‘Dad told me he hated me and never wanted to see me again. We haven’t talked since,’ Ms Krupinski told the Post.

‘They have tried to do everything to hurt me,’ she added. ‘They paint me as horrendous, I am their only child. There is no love; all they care for is money. I have no demons except my parents.’ “

Seeks Docs About DOJ’s Legal Fight Over Holder Contempt Of Congress Citation

” Judicial Watch announced today that on September 5, 2013, it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, against the Obama Department of Justice (DOJ) seeking access to all records of communications between DOJ and House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform relating to settlement discussions in the Committee’s 2012 contempt of Congress lawsuit against Attorney General Eric Holder. The contempt citation stemmed from Holder’s refusal to turn over documents to Congress related to the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal (Judicial Watch v. DOJ (No. 1:13-cv-1344)).

Judicial Watch filed the FOIA lawsuit as part of its continuing investigation of the Fast and Furious scandal, where the Obama administration allowed weapons to “walk” across the border into the hands of Mexican drug cartels directly resulting in the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and countless Mexican citizens. On August 13, 2012, the House Oversight Committee sued Holder to enforce subpoenas in its probe of the Fast and Furious operation. On March 18, 2013, after a breakdown of settlement talks between the Committee and DOJ, a federal judge ordered the two sides to enter into mediation.”

Brazil To Obama: We’re Not Coming To Dinner

” Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has scrapped a scheduled state visit to the White House amid Brazilian outrage over news that the U.S. spied on her and a Brazilian oil company.

The cancellation of the Oct. 23 visit is the first public diplomatic fallout prompted by the revelations of National Security Agency spying and represents a serious rift between the two economic powerhouses and trading partners.

Obama has sought repeatedly to allay Brazil’s concerns, meeting privately with Rousseff at an economic summit in St. Petersburg, and dispatching several top members of his administration to speak to the Brazilians. Obama spoke with Rousseff by phone Monday, and White House spokesman Jay Carney said they agreed to postpone the state visit – which would have been the first of Obama’s second term.

Carney said the two presidents believed the visit “should not be overshadowed by a single bilateral issue, no matter how important or challenging the issue may be.”

But the Brazilian government said Tuesday the issue has yet to be resolved to its satisfaction.

“The illegal practice of intercepting communications and data of citizens, businesses and members of the Brazilian government constitute(s) a serious act which threatens national sovereignty and individual rights, and which is incompatible with democratic coexistence between friendly countries,” it said in a statement.”

May The Examiner Forgive Us For Copying This Post In Toto , But It Needs To Be Spread Far And Wide

” Advancing their quest for “common sense press control,” the Senate Judiciary Committee voted yesterday to define who the government will consider to be an “Authorized Journalist,” meaning if the measure becomes law, they will also be able to declare who is not. Voting 13-5 on “a compromise worked out by Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer, Dianne Feinstein and Dick Durbin in coordination with news organizations … the overall bill will … would codify many of the regulations proposed earlier this year by Attorney General Eric Holder,”Fox News reported.

Defining “covered journalists” as those who are “an employee, independent contractor or agent of an entity that disseminates news or information,” the bill would also “extend to student journalists,” the report continues, meaning it will also codify who is an “Authorized Student.” That opens itself to other questions, for instance, what if an activist blogger is also just a part-time online university attendee, and what institutional accreditation is required? Will the student’s major factor in, does it mean they have to work for the school paper, or what?

That this particular triumvirate sees itself as the arbiters of not just government declaring who merits elite “more equal than others” recognition, but as vested with legitimate Constitutional powers to make such a determination backed by force of law in the first damn place, is hardly surprising. After all, the Second Amendment isn’t safe around them either, so why would people think other freedoms would be?

In this case, Schumer is acting as bagman for the White House, Feinstein views the First Amendment as a “special privilege” to grant (loyal) “real reporters,” and Durbin is left schemingover how he can work the obsolescence of quill pens and the English Common Press to his advantage.

That they would be doing this in “coordination” with establishment media is also hardly a surprise. With many searching for workable business models and foundering due to a reduced demand to pay for dead tree media and competition by new upstart online rivals, with the loss of gatekeeper status due to alternative information providers, and with the erosion of trust their transparent agenda-driven offenses of commission and omission have earned them, it only makes sense they’d want government to stack the deck in their favor. Besides, quid pro quo makes the world go ‘round, and it’s not like they’re not on the same team anyway, at least the influential ones who have cushy administration gigs waiting for them, or that the door doesn’t swing both ways.

Add to that the natural inclination for what Joe Biden calls “legitimate media” to look down their collectivi … uh… collective noses at someone the great Juan Williams would dismiss as #justablogger, and it’s understandable why they would be happy to form a “public/private partnership,” which you have to admit sounds a lot warmer than terms like “economic fascism.”

Besides, get on their good side, and the possibilities are limitless, such as a proposed “progressive energy tax” (don’t you just love the word “progressive”?) that would “make the technologies that overproduce information more expensive and less widespread.” Hey, no less of an authority than John Roberts tells us as long as it’s a tax, government can practically do whatever it wants.

As for the issue that brings readers to this column, just forget the fact that for the most part, the media is almost universally hostile to gun rights, and universally ignorant or deceptive about how they report, and importantly, on what they choose to ignore.

That last link — and I go to the trouble to embed them for a reason – will segue us into a story that regular readers of this column are more than familiar with and just knew I’d be bringing up, the Fast and Furious government “gunwalking” criminal enterprise. No wonder Eric Holder is the one proposing the regs Chucky, DiFi and Dick (Heh!) are midwifing. Aside from the fact that his boss admittedly “hates” internet media

Go ahead and open that link too, and look around and explore some of the other rooms it opens into, and see what was left to a pair of “bloggers” to uncover, report and then throw every light and beat every pot and pan they could get their hands on to get Congress and the media to notice.

Then understand that the proposed new law does not affect me — at least as long as I can show I’m an “agent” of someone else, such as the fine folks at FMG Publications, who allow me to pen the monthly “Rights Watch” column in GUNS Magazine, and this website. But I take it personally, for several reasons.

Regular readers will also be familiar with the genesis of the term “Authorized Journalist,” which originated before my current professional affiliations were established, As editor and publisher of a local grassroots gun rights newsletter, while trying to cover a public press conference on guns at a public park by my Congressional representative and Sarah Brady, I was told by a law enforcement official that I was not allowed to ask a question because those were reserved for the press.

Over the years further “official” attempts at chilling “unauthorized journalism” were reported at the War on Guns blog, such as ATF threatening an FFL they were trying to close down with harassment charges for blogging about what they were doing to him. That particular story morphed into a legal threat from a United States Marshal for my coverage.

But even though I could probably count on an exemption for myself, at least until the law is amended to remove any “loopholes” that will certainly emerge once it’s accepted that this is an area government has authority to occupy, it’s not something any American with a shred of integrity and respect for equal protection under the law would have anything to do with. Plus, what kind of idiot would give government that kind of power?

And it’s still personal. See, I’m proud to be friends with Mike Vanderboegh of the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog, and I’m appreciative of the work we’ve done together. Not being anyone’s agent, he properly assesses he won’t be covered by the “shield” Eric Holder and his Congressional co-conspirators have in mind.

Having worked closely with Mike, not only on Fast and Furious, but on numerous other projects where he has enlisted trusted confidential sources to uncover stories no one else has, and seeing the corruption he has exposed, I’ll tell you right now this guy is more of a real journalist than any number of “professional” frauds the establishment rewards with recognition, fortune and awards. Knowing firsthand what a thorn he remains in the side of those relying on “legitimate media” to either ignore or make excuses for them, the threat of prosecuting bloggers for not revealing a source would intimidate many from coming forward.

I say this without hyperbole. A guy like Mike would die before betraying a confidence. I know this to be true. People can trust him with their lives. Some have.

There’s something I’ve known but not talked about, because protecting our sources has always been the paramount and sacred trust that explains in part why we have been able to secure information others with organizational resources have not. I’ll relate it now, in very general terms, so that you’ll understand some of the considerations we have been forced to contemplate while working on some of the developments we have made public over the years.

More than one confidential source has acknowledged they were in fear for their lives, and credit the lights and noise generated by mere bloggers with helping to keep them safe. Literally. Understanding that I will not flesh this out with further detail, think for a moment what that means, and how that also weighed on those they trusted, with personal and family concerns of their own.

You’re damn right I take this personally.

Drudge is right. This latest offensive power grab where government presumes approval over journalists is “disgusting” and it’s “fascist.”

It is, in fact, an “Intolerable Act.”

No “real American” will stand for it.”

If A Recently Leaked Document Is Any Indication, The US National Security Agency — Or Its UK Counterpart — Appears To Have Put On A Google Suit To Gather Intelligence

” Here’s one of the latest tidbits on the NSA surveillance scandal (which seems to be generating nearly as many blog items as there are phone numbers in the spy agency’s data banks).

Earlier this week, Techdirt picked up on a passing mention in a Brazilian news story and a Slate article to point out that the US National Security Agency had apparently impersonated Google on at least one occasion to gather data on people. (Mother Jones subsequently pointed outTechdirt’s point-out.)

Brazilian site Fantastico obtained and published a document leaked by Edward Snowden, which diagrams how a “man in the middle attack” involving Google was apparently carried out.

A technique commonly used by hackers, a MITM attack involves using a fake security certificate to pose as a legitimate Web service, bypass browser security settings, and then intercept data that an unsuspecting person is sending to that service. Hackers could, for example, pose as a banking Web site and steal passwords.

The technique is particularly sly because the hackers then use the password to log in to the real banking site and then serve as a “man in the middle,” receiving requests from the banking customer, passing them on to the bank site, and then returning requested info to the customer — all the while collecting data for themselves, with neither the customer nor the bank realizing what’s happening. Such attacks can be used against e-mail providers too.”
